A Message from the President

Aloha,

For nearly four decades, HIFA has served as a bridge connecting Hawaiʻi with the international film and television production community.

Throughout our history, we have worked closely with government agencies, labor unions, and production companies to improve the production environment and make Hawaiʻi a welcoming destination aiding international filmmakers.

Currently, one of our most important priorities is addressing the visa challenges facing international production crews. HIFA is advocating for a new, streamlined short-term media visa system that would make it easier for qualified international production teams to work legally and efficiently in Hawaiʻi.

At the same time, we are expanding our vision to strengthen partnerships across the media, tourism, business, and events industries, creating new opportunities and meaningful benefits for our members.

I sincerely appreciate everyone who has contributed to HIFA's history and success, and I look forward to working together to build an even stronger future connecting Hawaiʻi with the world. E komo mai/welcome!

Mahalo nui loa,

George Y. Russell
President
Hawaii International Film Association (HIFA)
